Numbers in for Chalk the Walk
The raw data taken on the street from Chalk the Walk is in.

Business surveys are not yet all in. A formal report will be available soon.

Bus Tours coming to Mount Vernon
We have been getting more and more requests for bus tours to Mount Vernon and are in the process of developing a brochure and a docent training project for tours.
A bus tour committee is in place and has begun discussions. If interested in being a part of this committee, contact Joe J direct for more information. Others on the committee include Mark Binsfield, Ann Booth, Barb Colehour, Carol Dillard, Kay Johansen, Jennifer Miller, Marty Mitchell and Beryl O’Connor.
Audio Tour Committee to begin implementing project
A joint committee of Cornell College, Mount Vernon Historic Preservation Commission and the Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Development Group have begun work on what is hoped to become a large 40-building project to create individual audio tours of Mount Vernon’s Historic Districts and buildings.
The first building to take part in the project will be the 1912 Wolfe Medical Office Building, aka The Mount Vernon Visitor Center. Within the next few months, a pedestal and plaque designed and built by Mount Vernon Historic Preservation will be erected in front of the Visitor Center, with a phone number that rings at Cornell College. The voice message at that phone number will be that of local resident Bob Wolfe giving a personal account of his memories of growing up in and around the building. It is hoped this first installment of the audio tour project will raise awareness of the project as the committee looks for funding to complete the project.
Look for more of these tours coming in the next year or so.
Fourth of July Lincoln Highway Antiques Extravaganza meetings have begun
The committee planning the 4th of July Antiques Extravaganza has begun preparations for the event. Last year, the event brought approximately 7,000 people to town. The group is looking for a few MV-L managed businesses or organizations to offer street food sales as part of the event. If interested in participating with a food booth, contact Joe Jennison at firstname.lastname@example.org
RAGBRAI coming July 27
RAGBRAI will be peddling through Mount Vernon on their way from Cedar Rapids to Anamosa on Friday, July 27. The riders (15,000+) will be going through town throughout the morning and afternoon and will be asked to be completely gone by 3 p.m. that day. The route will take the riders to Uptown along Old Mount Vernon Road, turning left onto 2nd Avenue, and then on out to Springville Road along 8th Street.
The committee has chosen a theme of “Funky Friday.” The West side of Uptown will be closed down to be used as festival grounds.
CDG has agreed to take a lead role in coordinating the event through town. If interested in taking part, contact Brenda Langenberg at Hills Bank via email: Brenda_Langenberg@hillsbank.com
